Description

An elegant ceramic vase by master potter Nampeyo (1858-1942), this piece has a graceful tapered form decorated with exceptionally fine linework complimenting its curves. This piece shows the strong geometric influence of Art Deco. The design shows detailed checkering around the neck over squared off rainbows with eyes, creating rectangular faces.

Nampeyo mastered the vase form and made several different variations of it, of which this is one of the most successful. The piece is well fired, expressing the full tonality of colors for which Hopi yellow ware is best known. It has a striking, sophisticated presence with complex abstractions. Definitely a one-of-a-kind masterpiece by an artist in her prime.

It measures 10 3/4″ high by 6 1/2″ in diameter. Excellent original condition with a big presence. A classic addition to any collection of Pueblo pottery. Highly recommended.
