Description
The mouth of this seed jar features a heart-shaped cutaway. This unique piece features a classic Hopi yellowware slip on the bottom while the red sgraffito surface continues Dextra’s innovations. Dextra Quotskuyva (1928–2019) was a renowned Hopi-Tewa potter from Arizona, celebrated for her innovative approach to traditional Hopi pottery. A member of the distinguished Nampeyo family of potters, she honored her heritage while pushing artistic boundaries, incorporating modern designs and techniques. Her work is in many museums and collections.
This outstanding piece measures 3” in height by 9” in diameter and is in excellent condition. The bowl is signed by the artist along with her corn cob clan symbol.
