Description
Hopi master potter Vernida Polacca Nampeyo (1955- present) fired this polychrome migration jar in June 2025. This migration jar features the classic interlocking wings and avian motifs circling the piece, framed with red details, fine line work and a great shape. This fine migration example of her work decorates a well-molded, symmetrical jar. The jar has a tonality from ivory to burnt orange that Hopi yellowware pottery is prized for.
Vernida is the great-granddaughter of Nampeyo and the granddaughter of Fannie, Nampeyo’s most prolific and skilled potting daughter. Fannie taught Vernida pottery-making. For decades, Vernida has made traditional Hopi pottery the way Fannie taught her, and she is well-known for precisely executing family designs, particularly the migration.
This piece measures 5 ¾” high by 8 ½” in diameter. This piece is well fired and signed by the artist.
