Description
This large 4-paneled polychrome seed jar shows fine line work, nice stippling, and bold design elements. The rare piece features 5 distinct colors, the distinctive eagle tail motif typical of the Nampeyo family, and a “squared circle” mouth.
Jean Sahmie is the 5th generation descendant of Nampeyo of Hano, and sister to Rachel Sahmie and Nyla Sahmie – all master potters. The Jar is one of the best pieces made by Jean Sahmie over many decades of creating art.
This piece measures 9” in height by 13” in diameter and is signed by the artist. Two small pop outs were repaired by the artist and do not affect the beautiful impact of this outstanding piece.
