Large Storage Jar by Nyla Sahmie

Description

This large masterful 4-panel storage jar by Nyla Sahmie features iconic Sikyatki Revival designs including the Beetle Lady and a large spiral. Each panel is neatly segmented and framed by an abstract black border and double-tail eagle feather. This yellowware jar bares the cloud marks from the open pit-fire process that is done in the same location where Nampeyo of Hano originally fired her pots in the 19th and 20th century.


Nyla Sahmie is the 5th generation descendant of Nampeyo and a master potter from Third Mesa in Polacca, Arizona.


This piece measures 13 ½” high by 15” in diameter. The large jar has a big presence and overall, is at the masterpiece level. This piece is signed by the artist and is in great condition.
