Description

This rare Hopi Polacca ceramic four-horned kachina figure was created by Nampeyo of Hano and represents one of her earliest documented figural works. Hand-formed from native clay and traditionally fired, the figure features four horn projections, cross facial markings, a dotted torso pattern, and a painted diagonal sash, all executed in natural pigment over a light slip. The surface shows honest wear consistent with age and use, reflecting the brief period when Hopi potters in Polacca translated kachina imagery into clay during the late nineteenth century.

This piece measures 7 ¼” in height by 5” in diameter.
