An exceptional example of a Hopi canteen by Nampeyo (1858-1942), the matriarch of modern Pueblo pottery. This piece takes the spherical form of a traditional Pueblo canteen. The designs are elegant original compositions in Nampeyo’s Sikyatki Revival style, combining elements taken from the Pre-Colonial tradition of pottery making at Hopi. The design elements include tadpole motifs common in Hopi religious imagery. This piece measures 8 1/2″ long by 9 1/4″ wide by 7 1/4″ thick. It is in excellent original condition. Includes a museum quality stand custom made for the piece. A definitive example by a master artist.
