Acoma Black on White Seed Jar by Grace Chino

$3,950.00

Description

An iconic piece of Indigenous Modern mastery, this seed jar is an excellent example of the work of Grace Chino (1929-1994), a second-generation master potter from Acoma Pueblo. The expanding lightning bolt motif dazzles the eye and pairs well with other mid-century design. This traditional piece is handmade and painted with yucca fiber brushes. It measures 9” high by 10 ½” in diameter and is clearly signed by the artist, and in excellent original condition.

Grace is the best-known daughter of Marie Z. Chino, one of Four Matriarchs of the 20th century revival at Acoma. Grace collaborated closely with her mother and carried on her legacy. Marie and Grace were both honored in the landmark “7 Families In Pueblo Pottery” exhibit in 1974.
