San Ildefonso Polychrome Jar by Maria and Julian Martinez, c. 1910

$16,500.00

Description

This historic San Ildefonso jar is attributed to Maria & Julian Martinez. It dates to c. 1910. Maria innovated the distinctive Tunyo form before 1910. Julian’s designs show influence from his uncle Florentino Montoya, but remained distinctively his own. His use of scalloping on the mouth and shoulder show his specific style.

This piece measures 10” in height by 12 ½” in diameter and is in great original condition. The jar is an excellent example of the Martinez’s polychrome work before they invented the polished blackware around 1920. This piece comes with a letter of authenticity.
