Description
This is a polychrome pottery gourd by Hopi-Navajo potter Nathan Begaye (1958-2010). The gourd has a cotton cord at the top, and is accompanied by a note from Nathan that explains the design on the jar. The design features four sun or Tawa kachina faces with eagle tail feathers “falling off the pot.” The jar is signed “Nathan B Hopi Navajo 3-27-86,” and is in excellent original condition. It measures 5 ¼” height and 5 ¼” diameter, and comes from the collection of a longtime patron of Nathan in Santa Fe, who allowed him to trade pottery for housing.
