Description
This traditional Cochiti storyteller is seated with an open mouth, in the process of telling his story, while two children perch on his shoulders. The hunter has a bow with which he has just slain the deer on his lap. Bright coloration and excellent detail are shown in the quality of the artistry. The hunter’s clothes are traditional Pueblo with Spanish influence. This traditional figurative clay sculpture represents the oral tradition of storytelling and the transmission of culture, history, and values through generations.
Louis Naranjo was considered one of the finest potters at Cochiti and won many awards over his life time, many with his wife Virginia.
This exceptional piece measures 8 ½” high by 9” in length, is in excellent condition, and is signed by the artist.
