Description
This exceptional vase was traditionally made by Rachel Sahmie, known by her Hopi name “Koo Loo”. The design features avian iconography that fits the form nicely. The piece has a gradient of ivory to a deep peach blush and excellent stippling. This vase is double paneled with an abstract bird design on each side and small sleek arrows in between the panels. The colors are bold and the line work is detailed. The form of the vase is fine and the cloud marks indicate traditional pit firing.
This piece measures 9 ¾” in height by 6” in diameter and is signed “Koo Loo” by the artist. An excellent example of Nampeyo family pottery by a recently deceased master.
