Description

This exceptional example of an historic Navajo transitional weaving dates to 1920. The large weaving is decorated with fifteen eight-point Valero stars, a well-known pattern that dates to the 1800s and is associated with both HispaƱo and Navajo weavings. The Valero star design is thought to have originated in Spain, showing Spanish influence in New Mexico. This handsome weaving, made with homespun wool, alternately incorporates brown, beige, grey, and red into each star design. The weaving measures 71″ height and 50″ width, and is in excellent condition with some minor wear commensurate with age.
