Description

This Hopi polychrome canteen dates to the 1920s, and was made by a member of the Nampeyo family—perhaps molded by Nampeyo and painted by her eldest daughter Annie. The canteen is a miniaturized version of a traditional Hopi canteen, and is an excellent example of Hopi potters miniaturizing ethnographic forms for the tourist art market. The design on the canteen is classic Nampeyo, featuring her familiar eagle tail feathers dropping down, framed by talons. The canteen measures 3″ height and 4 1/2″ width, and is in excellent, original condition. Complimentary shipping is included.
